Analysis of the Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of DP980 Steel Gas Metal Arc Welded Joints

چکیده
Dual phase (DP) steels have high strength, while maintaining outstanding elongation capacities. This is possible using a well-controlled thermomechanical process that produces perfect combination in the DP microstructures. However, automotive makers are required to weld steels, which generates soft zone microstructure. In this work, 1.6 mm-thick DP980 steel sheets were welded by gas metal arc welding analyze response of cyclic loading conditions. Conducted macrographic and metallography analyses revealed good quality appearance joints, with complete fusion joint without presence discontinuities. Low cycle fatigue tests joints conducted under constant amplitude strain control mode. The experienced life reduction respect ~16% at amplitudes 0.2, 0.3, 0.4%. For larger than 0.6%, was reduced 39%. Weld thermal cycles combined analysis indicated tempered martensite during responsible for soft-zone formation poor response.

Ultra low cycle fatigue of welded steel joints under multiaxial loading
Ultra low cycle fatigue (ULCF) is a phenomenon that can be summarily defined as the deterioration of material properties under high amplitude cyclic loading, under which failure is reached typically within ten to twenty cycles. This phenomenon is observed in extreme loading scenarios such as earthquakes or exceptional winds where large cyclic strains are expected. Particularly sensitive are str...

Stress relieving is a common practice among manufacturing codes for reducing the magnitude of residual stresses in welded, quenched, and tempered steel structures and pressure vessels. The present work investigates the effect of stress relieving at 480, 560, 620, and 680°C on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 20 mm ASTM A517 Gr. B steel plate weldments produced by shielded metal a...
متن کاملFatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints
In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading. It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...
